I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and, as such, am able to complete the pre-surgical evaluation to determine psychological readiness. This assessment is required for bariatric/weight loss surgery. Having undergone bariatric surgery about 6 years ago, I am able to provide others with a true understanding of the pre- and post-surgical processes as well as provide insights, support and counseling that are usually necessary to be successful in the efforts to lose weight and maintain that loss.
When I work with a prospective weight loss surgery candidate in completing the psychological evaluation, I spend time discussing the perceived future changes and the anticipated outcomes. I want to be sure the candidate has a genuine understanding of the challenges that may and will lie ahead. The decision to undergo weight loss surgery is a difficult one to make, or at least it should not be easy. The procedure is considered a major operation and, as with any surgery, there could be serious complications. In addition, the end result is life changing; not only for you, but for your family and friends. The social/emotional piece of this complicated weight loss puzzle is critical and its power should not be underestimated.
Working with individuals following their bariatric surgery, I am able to provide support as they adjust to their new lifestyles. In spite of feeling prepared for the changes that follow weight loss surgery, it is not unusual for unforeseen issues or concerns to arise. Using counseling, as well as hypnotherapy, I am able to provide these additional supports for successful weight loss outcomes.
I place a great deal of emphasis on the social/emotional component of any type of weight loss program, especially with regard to weight loss surgery. The results can be dramatic and will impact virtually every aspect of your life. It is not always a simple task to put these changes into healthy perspectives, which is needed to sustain successful weight loss. But, is a very real possibility.
